Goodbye Frizz! 12 Common Mistakes to Avoid for Perfect Curly Hair

Frizz is one of the most common problems for those with curly, wavy or simply difficult to manage hair. Often, however, it is not just the humidity or the climate that is to blame: there are daily habits that can make the situation worse. Let's find out together what the most common mistakes are and how to avoid them to keep your hair healthy and defined.

1. Don't brush or touch!

The first tip for fighting frizz is: forget about the brush (unless your hair is completely wet) . Running a brush or your fingers through curly hair separates it, turning it into a frizzy mess. Let your curls stay natural and touch them as little as possible.

2. Mistakes in the shower

Avoid standing directly under hot water, especially in winter. Very hot water can dry out your hair and increase frizz. Also, avoid rubbing your hair with a towel, pat dry gently and pay attention to respecting the structure of your waves and curls so as not to "unravel" them.

3. Lack of hydration

Make sure you follow a proper moisturizing routine: always use extra hydrating conditioners and regularly treat yourself to nourishing masks . The curlier your hair is, the more frequent these treatments will need to be. For example: coily hair requires masks and packs about once a week, while wavy hair can be limited to once every two weeks.
Apply the conditioner to wet hair, adding water as you apply, and leave it on for at least 5 minutes (or as recommended on the product). Comb your hair with your fingers tightly closed or use a detangling brush specifically for curls, featuring wide teeth that prevent breakage.
This application technique allows water to penetrate deeper into the hair shaft, improving hydration and ensuring a more defined, frizz-free final look.

4. Incorrect products and styling techniques

If your hair looks thin and messy when wet, it will look frizzy when dry. Before drying: stop! Add more water to transform your curls/waves into defined locks, using Leonia styling cream. It is important to use a product that has a good hold. So scrunch, define and shape your hair, experimenting with the styling technique that best suits your hair. Then dry with the diffuser nearby, tilting your head in different positions but without touching the hair, to create a defined, natural and frizz-free effect.

5. Touch before it's dry

Remember that hair is at its most vulnerable to frizz when it is 80%-100% dry . This is when we tell ourselves that it is “almost dry” and start touching or scrunching it. This is how frizz is born. It is best not to touch your hair at all while drying, especially when it is almost dry. Instead, tilt your head down and gently shake your hair without touching it too much. Once it is 100% dry, you can style it however you want. Also avoid going to sleep with damp hair.

6. Wrong haircut

Haircuts that involve thinning or texturizing can cause the strands within each curl group to be unequal in length. If you have that type of cut, avoid over-scrunching. Instead, use a prayer hand technique to apply products so that even the shortest strands stay in place.

7. Abrasive fabrics

Be careful about the fabrics that touch your hair. Fabrics like wool and flannel have an abrasive texture that can make your hair frizz when they come into contact with it. Sleep on silk or satin, fabrics that, on the contrary, have a "smooth" texture. In general, also pay attention to rubbing with objects. Put on your jacket or turtleneck sweaters gently, wear bags and backpacks without crushing your hair, when you can avoid hats, especially winter ones.
